How much does an AGA cost to run?

AGA running costs can vary significantly based on the specific model, the type of fuel used, and how you operate the cooker. Although an AGA cooker may have higher running costs compared to a fan assisted range cooker or a built-in oven, the AGA can replace multiple household appliances such as your tumble drier, radiators, electric kettle, slow cooker and toaster. When evaluating running costs, it is crucial to consider these factors collectively to understand the overall impact an AGA will have on your household expenses.

New Generation Electric AGA Cookers

The latest generation of AGA cookers offers increased flexibility and control, allowing you to significantly lower running costs. These all-electric AGA models provide the opportunity to manage energy usage more efficiently, thanks to fast heat-up times and the ability to operate ovens and hotplates individually. The cast-iron hotplates heat up in just 8-10 minutes turning on when you nee them and off when you don’t, saving up to 50% of energy. Enhanced controllability is provided by features such as controls and programmers, allowing the heat storage ovens to be set around your lifestyle, conserving energy and reducing running costs. Additionally, the new electric AGA models do not require routine annual servicing and are and are designed to be low maintenance, eliminating the annual service costs and reducing your overall running expenses. In contrast, an oil AGA may require servicing twice a year, and gas models once a year.

The everyday Radiant heat also known as the eR Series, includes the AGA eR3 Series, the AGA eR7 Series and the new AGA ERA . These are the most fuel-efficient AGA cookers available today. They offer greater control compared to older models and are designed to switch on and off as required. The eR7 cookers and ERA provide enhanced controllability with a touch-screen digital control panel and a handheld programmer. This allows the heat storage ovens to be set according to your lifestyle, conserving energy and reducing running costs. The eR3 cookers also offer the flexibility of independently controlling the ovens and hotplate, with the added option of a programable timer for the top oven. This feature ensures that your cooking is both convenient and energy-efficient.

The 24/7 Radiant heat, also known as the R Series, includes the AGA R7 Series and the AGA R3 Series. These models are designed to be always on and ready to cook anytime, much like a traditional AGA. However, improvements in the design, features and control options make them more efficient and cost-effective, providing a traditional AGA lifestyle with modern benefits.

By understanding the various factors that influence AGA running costs and the advancements in the new generation models, you can make an informed decision that balances efficiency, cost, and the unique benefits of owning an AGA cooker.
